Product Description This Walt Disney movie is the story of Tarzan.
Amazon.com After viewing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Edgar Rice Burroughs wrote to Walt Disney about adapting his novel of an ape-man into a feature animated cartoon. Sixtysome years later, the tale is finally told with brilliant design work that looks unlike any previous animated film. The story is a natural for Disney since the themes of misunderstood central figures have been at the heart of its recent hits. Disney's Tarzan doesn't wander far from the familiar story of a shipwrecked baby who is brought up by apes in Africa. What gives the film its zing is its clever use of music (the songs are sung by Phil Collins himself rather than onscreen characters) and the remarkable animation. Deep Canvas, a 3-D technology, was developed for the film, creating a jungle that comes alive as Tarzan swings through the trees, often looking like a modern skateboarder racing down giant tree limbs. The usual foray of sidekicks, including a rambunctious ape voiced by Rosie O'Donnell, should keep the little ones aptly entertained. The two lead voices, Tony Goldwyn as Tarzan and Minnie Driver as Jane, are inspired choices. Their chemistry helps the story through the weakest points (the last third) and makes Tarzan's initial connection with all things human (including Jane) delicious entertainment. Disney still is not taking risks in its animated films, but as cookie-cutter entertainment, Tarzan makes a pretty good treat. (Ages 5 and up) --Doug Thomas

Great Movie - But Flawed Audio! February 4, 2000 SALVATORE ALIOTO (USA) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
The movie is great, I like it at home as much as I did in the theater, BUT...There appears to be a glitch with the sound. The front left and rear right audio channel is SWITCHED. Disney is aware of this problem (on 1.5 million disks) and isn't doing ANYTHING about it!
How to make a gem without violence! November 30, 1999 Eduardo Middleton K. (Santiago, A.M. Chile) 53 out of 64 found this review helpful
Technically, this movie is perfect. Great songs, beautifully designed scenarios, endearable funny characters and a strong feeling of nostalgia for movies that aim to a higher message. Regretfully, whoever is a parent these days is having a lot of trouble to explain the violence shown in cartoons to their sons. Moreover, it's hard to endorse any t.v. cartoons other than Pinky and the Brain or history related ones. Tarzan demonstrates that there is such thing such as a Family Film and that you can create visually stunning gems as this movie and, still, send a message other than gross scenes or blood and guts spilled all over. Thank you, Disney.
The Best DVD Disney has to offer February 2, 2000 R. Perez (DFW Metroplex) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I just finished watching the Tarzan DVD with my fammily and the quality of the animation and story is Excellent. The stunning animation and soudtrack is reason enough to purchase this DVD, but it comes with so many more extras including; a on screen trivia game, a on screen story book, a phil collins music video, behind the scences stuff, cool trailers and a DVD ROM game ( I dont have a computer DVD ROM Drive..yet) Not to mention language selections in English, Spanish and French. A Must buy for any Family or Disney Lover.
No forced Commercials, tons of features, excellent! April 25, 2000 Sydney Head (Newport Beach, CA USA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Well, disney, you might actually be catching on. . . The DVDalso has a "bounus" not advertised on the front-- you don'thave to sit through 10 minutes of commercials before you watch the movie. The DVD takes you straight to the menu and has more features than almost any other movie I've purchased yet. Some favorites-- Descriptive TheaterVision-- Tony Goldwyn (Voice of Tarzan) narrates the movie for the blind or visually impaired, Animation process demonstration-- uses multiple angle feature to interactively switch between four stages of the animation process. Storyboard/Film comparison shows two frames of the movie-- the storyboard reel and below the final film so you can compare the similarites. Three abandoned sequences from early in the movie's production-- very cool... And nothing beats the visual quality of the direct visual transfer. The blues have never been so blue and the greens have never been so green. Compared to the DVD releases of Hercules and Mulan, which were not direct digital transfers, this movie shines! And to hear the score in 5.1 Dolby Surround is a thing of beauty. Disney-- if you're listening-- keep putting out these collector's editions-- and we'll keep buying them!
From Idianapolis.. Great Movie November 20, 1999 79 out of 101 found this review helpful
I have to say that the person from Chicago is way to analytical! This is a childrens movie without a doubt.. Take it from a mother that is very protective of the tv programs that her children watch.. This was very animated and there was no gross violence that all the new cartoons these days have in it.. It was a love story, a frienship story, a happy and a sad story. As an adult, I loved it and highly reccomend it for you and your children. It is something that you can sit down as a family and enjoy together.. Try not to analyze this movie, just enjoy it, it's great!
